Yellowhammer and Stonechat

Latin Identification.

Yellowhammer ....................Emberiza citrinella

Stonechat .............................Saxicola torquata

It was nice to see a Yellowhammer again as I believe they are becoming a lot scarcer than they use to be.
The washed out skies are not to my liking but they are *stop the car and shoot jobs* so I have to be content with them.

Pentire

Another great evening with Derek and his family resulted in another life tick....Manx Shearwater...okay I know it is a popular seabird but it was mine and Angie's first sighting and we eventually saw a hundred or so.
The evening was rounded off with another Nightjar sighting and the call of two males.
Regrettably I failed to glimpse the Nightjar this week and am unable to hear them but I can still say it was an enjoyable occasion.

Cormorant.

An earlier post of mine showing a Cormorant with outstretched wings titled ..*Drying Off*... is a little misleading.
I have recently learnt they do this to aid digestion and not to dry out the wings.

A Low Garden Count

Things are very quiet at the moment. A lot of the usual mobsters around the garden have taken to the nest or just cleared off. So the blog relies again on the old faithful Robins.

A Record Shot

Spotted Flycatcher ............Muscicapa striata
The very noisy image was the best I could come up with on the day. The dark interior of the wood and shooting conditions ....hand held, slow speed and maximum ISO were never going to produce a really good image. Still it was a life tick and I was more than pleased I had captured it.

I crept up on the Crow at Hayle Estuary and hid behind a wall till he was virtually underneath me. Notice the bluish shadow and sheen of the Crow.
